Whether it’s this program, or any other type of program that you have incorporated into your training regimen, only YOU know what best prepares you. So if you follow this program religiously (or any type of program that works for you) and find that it has become part of what you believe best supports your arm, please be sure to be an ADVOCATE for your arm when you show up to Spring Training.
Though MLB Organizations have grown significantly over the years when it comes to being open to individuality, it is still VITAL that you stay loyal to what works best for you – especially your throwing program – by speaking up if you feel that any part of your throwing, preparation, or training is being compromised, restricted, or limited in any way. For example, your organization may have a throwing philosophy in place, and may want you to throw according to their plan. But if their plan is not consistent with your plan – or is detrimental to your arm – it’s essential that you bring this up immediately.
Fortunately, Coaches by nature, tend to be open-minded and growth oriented, so chances are great that they are going to be open to collaborating with you – especially if what you are doing is working so well. Also, because there are so many highly reputable training facilities in the country, and so much information available on the internet, the idea of sharing information and collaborating will hopefully be welcomed.
The bottom line is only YOU know on any given day, how far you want to go out to (Distance), how many throws you want to make (Volume), and with what type of effort you want to use (Intent). YOUR arm is attached to YOUR shoulder, and not anyone else’s. YOUR arm is your ultimate guide, so please be loyal to it and protect it by always being an ADVOCATE for it.
